<br />:"'-" <br /> <br />CITY OF CENTERVILLE <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />MONDAY, NOVEMBER 9,1998 <br /> <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the City Council of the City of Centerville held its <br />regularly scheduled Council meeting on November 9, 1998 at City Hall, 1880 Main Street. <br /> <br />PRESENT: <br /> <br />Mayor Thomas Wilharber <br />Council Members: Theresa Brenner <br />Sanna Buckbee <br />Laura Powers <br /> <br />ABSENT: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />STAFF: <br /> <br />Jim March, City Administrator <br />Ry-Chel Gaustad, City Clerk <br />Paul Palzer, Public Works Director/Building <br />Jim Hoeft, City Attorney <br />Tom Peterson, City Engineer <br /> <br />Mayor Wilharber noted the City Council met in closed session beginning at 5:00 p.m. to discuss <br />union contract renewal. <br /> <br />) <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />Mayor Wilharber called the regularly schedule council meeting to order at 6:05 p.m. <br /> <br />Canvass of Returns: <br />Ms. Gaustad resubmitted the canvass of returns for Council consideration. In addition, she <br />reported the City conducted a "recount" of the State General Election and the results concluded <br />both, Terry Sweeney and Mari Nelson tied votes at 360. The Council accepted the newly <br />submitted canvass of returns for the 1998 State General Election. <br /> <br />Draw By Lot <br />In regards to the tie votes, Ms. Gaustad read aloud from MS 205.184 PROCEDURE. Subd. 3. <br />". .. In case of a tie vote, the governing body shall determine the result by lot." Mayor Wilharber <br />requested each of the candidates to draw a card, Ms. Mari Nelson selected "King" and Mr. Terry <br />Sweeney selected an "8." Therefore, Ms. Mari Nelson will be elected to a four year Council term <br />and Mr. Sweeney will be appointed to a two year term. <br /> <br />Mayor Wilharber inquired about a complaint the City received in regards to "resident <br />requirements." Ms. Gaustad explained the Council will address the third council vacancy after <br />consdieration of "resident requirements" and the law. <br /> <br />1 <br />
