<br />VUI l..1 l..l <br /> <br />DRAFT <br /> <br />Background <br />City of Centervllle <br />2030 Comprehensive Plen <br /> <br />Natural Resources, Parks and Trails <br /> <br />As of the 1997 Comprehensive Plan, the City of Centerville owned and operated six City <br />parks, with plans to expand the park system as development occurred. Nearly 10% of <br />the ecreage of Centerville (149 acres) is within the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional <br />Park Reserve, which provides a variety of recreation opportunities, as well as .passlve. <br />natural areas intended for the preservation of wildlife habitat. Metropolitan Council <br />requires that all regional parks have 80% of their land preserved In a natural state. <br /> <br />Centerville also has a sidewalk and trail system intended to connect the city's parks and <br />serve as a transportation system. Figure 5 shows the city's existing and planned parks, <br />trails and sidewalks. Centerville's current land use plan also shows areas guided for <br />Mure park land. These areas are generally located near vacant or agricultural land In <br />the city that may in the near Mure develop to residential uses. Planned park and trail <br />systems Include: <br /> <br />. A bituminous trail from the eastem boundary to the westem boundary along Main <br />Avenue. Additional sidewalk is also planned along portions of this route. <br /> <br />. A bituminous trail along the northern boundary of the city parkland on the <br />western edge of the city from laMotte Drive to Centerville Road. <br /> <br />. A park near the developing area east of Dupre Road. <br /> <br />. An addition to the park on the westem edge of the city north of Hunters Trail. <br /> <br />The comprehensive plan update process will include a review of these planned <br />improvements and any necessary revisions. <br /> <br />Realonal Trails and Metrooolltan Council Reaulrements <br /> <br />The system statement provided by the Metropolitan Council in preparation for <br />Centerville's Comprehensive Plan update Identifies two regional trails that are planned to <br />pass through Centerville. Both trails have a planned general alignment, and the <br />Metropolitan Council requires that these alignments be acknowledged in the City's <br />updated Comprehensive Plan. The regional trails include: <br /> <br />. Central Anoka County Regional Trail. This trail Is an east-west trail that Is <br />located in the central part of the county. In Centerville it will connect Rice Creek <br />Chain of Lakes on the west with the Hardwood Creek Regional Trail In <br />Washington County to the east. <br /> <br />. Rica Creek Chain of Lakes - Bald Eagle Regional Trail. This trail will connect <br />Bald Eagle Regional Park with Rice Creek Chain of lekes Regional Park. In <br />Centerville it will run near the right-of-way of Centerville Road and connect to the <br />east-west Anoka County Regional Trail near Main Avenue. <br /> <br />Both of these planned trail alignments are shown in Figure 5. The Metropolitan Council <br />also requires the boundary of the Rice Creek Chain of lakes Regional Park to be <br /> <br />18 <br />
