<br />The Minnesota Design Team along with the Parks and Recreation Committee in 1998 estab-
<br />lished agoal for the community to acquire lakeshore property to provide residents and
<br />visitors a tranquil, environmentallyleco-friendly passive park with a pavilion ,grills and
<br />demonstration areas. The City was awarded a $150,000 grant from the DNR Outdoor
<br />Recreation Program to assist in its park development. The remaining funding to purchase
<br />the park and make improvements has came from Park Dedication Fees ($485,000). Devel-
<br />opers are required to donate land or monies to be used for park land expansion or park
<br />equipment at the City's discretion.
<br />SEVERE WEATHER ALERT...
<br />April 21 st through April 25th is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Minnesota. A Tornado
<br />WatchlWarning drill will be held on April 24, 2008.
<br />LIGHTING ...
<br />What to do to protect yourself from lightning:
<br />If you are outside, get inside a building or vehicle. If you hear thunder, you are at risk.
<br />Practice the 30130 safety rule. If you see lightning and cannot count to 30 before hearing
<br />thunder, go indoors. Stay indoors an additional 30 minutes after hearing the last clap of
<br />thunder. If you cannot find shelter, do NOT stand under a tree or remain in a open place
<br />when lighting is near. Avoid open water, as well as tractors, bicycles, motorcycles or golf
<br />carts. These will not provide protection, and may actually attract lightning.

<br />NEW PUBLIC WORKS MAINTENANCE FACILITY
<br />NEARING COMPLETION
<br />The City negotiated the purchase of the building conditioned upon the specifications set by
<br />the Council for $1.4 million. The building will meet the needs of the City far into the future.
<br />Council anticipates that the current site's market value is $435,000 as a commercial site
<br />which would be best suit as a prominent commercial location. Capital Reserves established
<br />in 2004 of $415,000 was utilized along with the Enterprise Fund and a small internal loan
<br />that will be repaid upon the sale of the 20th Avenue site. Join us for an open house in the
<br />summer after landscaping is fully completed. The next newsletter will
<br />contain more information about the open house.

<br />Did you know that parking on any street within the hours of 3:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. is pro-
<br />hibited? If you anticipate that you will have overnight guest(s) or your own vehicles will be
<br />parked on the street, please contact City Hall and we will be happy to provide you with a
<br />FREE parking permit. Please provide us with the name of the registered owner, address
<br />where the vehicle will be parked, year, make, model and license plat number of the
<br />vehicle(s). PAINLESS! City Hall hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
<br />Permits may not be obtained before or after these hours so plan accordingly.

<br />WELL WATER TESTING
<br />During the week of May 5-9, 2008 the City will collect well water samples and ~~
<br />deliver them to County Offices on behalf of residents. Water Test Kits are avail-
<br />able atCity Hall far pickup. Residents will need to follow the instructions and deliver water
<br />samples back to City Hall before noon on Tuesday, May 6th or before 3:00 p.m. on Thurs-
<br />day, May 8, 2008. Cost for the testing will be $30.00 and payment needs to accompany
<br />the water sample.
<br />MAIN STREETICSAHI4 UPDATE
<br />The County is reconstructing the roadway and bridge through both the regional park and
<br />downtown Centerville. Main Street is expected to re-open September 2008. The project
<br />will include the use of light weight fill through the park area to minimize the movement of
<br />the new road and construction impacts. Main Street from 135E to the park entrance (Rice
<br />Creek Chain of Lakes) will remain open to traffic with traffic control provisions. The inter-
<br />sections at 20th Ave. (CSAH54), Centerville Road (CSAH 21) and the improvements to
<br />20th Ave. (CSAH54) will not require full closure. If you have any questions regarding this
<br />project, please contact Mr. Greg Anderson, Project Representative Anoka County at 651-
<br />426-4474.
<br />LAWN DAMAGE DUE TO SNOW PLOWS...
<br />If your sod has been damaged by the snowplows, please report this to the Public Works
<br />Department at 651-429-4750 and we will do our best to provide you with sad or seed the
<br />area. Any landscaping or sprinkler systems that are in the City's right-of-way will not be
<br />replaced or repaired by the City.
<br />LAWN & GARDEN WATERING REQUIREMENTS
<br />(May-September)
<br />Lawn and garden watering may only take place before 10:00 a.m. or after 6:00 p.m. The
<br />odd even rule applies for all watering. If your address ends in an even number, you may
<br />water only on even numbered days. If your address ends in an add number, you may
<br />water only on odd numbered days. If you have newly installed sod, you are exempt from
<br />this lawn & garden watering requirements far a period of two weeks.

<br />The City will place warning notices on homes that may not be aware of ~
<br />the watering requirements and are watering during the restricted times.:,
<br />This warning is an attempt to work with and educate residents prior to
<br />issuing violations.

<br />CENTERVILLE HAS SEEN FORECLOSURES

<br />-~`~. There were 16 foreclosures in 2006 and 21 in 2007, an increase of ap-
<br />_ ~ proximately 25%. Overall in Anoka County the numbers nearly have
<br />doubled with 843 in 2006 increasing to 1,671 in 2007.
