<br />Exhibit A <br /> <br />6.6 Overtime <br /> <br />The City recognizes some employees may be required to work extra hours in <br />emergency situations and during unexpected peak workload periods. The <br />scheduling and payment of overtime will be in accordance with the applicable <br />Fair Labor Standards Act and the following: <br /> <br />A. Non-Exempt Employees - Non-exempt employees shall be <br />compensated for work their supervisor requires them to undertake <br />in excess of a forty-hour (40) workweek. Hours taken as sick leave, <br />vacation leave, or holidays are considered hours worked for the <br />purposes of computing a forty-hour work week. The compensation <br />shall be paid at one and one-half times their regular rate of pay. <br />The Employee shall be compensated for any overtime worked in <br />the same pay period it is earned. <br /> <br />B. Exempt Employees - Exempt employees shall not be granted <br />overtime compensation. However, exempt employees also shall <br />not be denied compensation for any absence of less than one day, <br />since the employee is presumed to work forty hours per week, <br />some during the regular workday, and some outside those hours. <br /> <br />C. Overtime Authorization - Overtime should be avoided but when it <br />is necessary, the City Administrator must give specific approval <br />prior to its being earned. Pre-authorization may be presumed by <br />employees in emergency situations such as excess snowfall, flood, <br />severe storms, water main breaks, lift station malfunctions, or other <br />similar situations where the immediate response of staff is required <br />to avert endangerment of life, home or property. In the event of an <br />emergency situation, the City Administrator shall be notified <br />immediately. <br /> <br />13 EMPLOYEE TRAININGITRAVEL <br /> <br />13.1 General Policy - Training and Education <br />Employees may take advantage of training opportunities to help them <br />improve the performance of their present work assignments and to <br />prepare them for future assignments. <br /> <br />Cost, staffing issues, need/benefit to the City, and other appropriate <br />issues will be considered by the City Administrator in approving requests <br />
