100 W.t Hl.bway 98
t. Paul, Minnesota 55112
484-3301

II Fourth Avenue S.E.
St. Cloud. Minnesota "'1
111-7711 .

314 Oak St.
Sauk Centre, MmDelOta l1l7I
au....

October 13, 1976

City Council
City of Centerville
1581 Peltier Lake Drive
Centervi11e, MN 55038

Re: San. Sewer Improvement No.1.
Gentlemen:

We are submitting herewith the tabulation of bids for the Sanitary
Sewer Improvement No.1.

The lowest responsible bid was submitted by C.W. Houle Landscaping
Co., Inc., in the amount of $676,613.15.

We should like to point out t~at this bidder altered the bid by
striking out clay pipe, w~ic~ was specified and SUbstituting truss
pipe wnicn is a plastic pipe.

However, we have discussed this with Mr. C.W. Houle and have been
informed by him that he will furnish clay pi~e at the same price.

We have also been informed by Mr. C.W. Houle that ne would agree to
accept the award of contract using the clay pipe in smaller sizes
provided he can be paid extra for the difference in the price of the
larger sizes between clay and plastic as follows:

1211 Concrete @ 5.35/ft. vs. Plastic @ 3.50/ft.
1511 Concrete @ 6.l6/ft. vs. Plas.tic @ 5.60/ft.

This difference would total about $13,000.00.

It may well be tnat we will use some plastic pipe because of soil and
water conditions.

Consequently, we would recommend that the contract be awarded to the
low bidder, C.W. Houle Landscaping Co., Inc., in the amount of
$676,613.15 witb the above provisions w~ich at the most would amount
to less t~an 2% of the total contract.

lATES
