City of Centerville <br />City Council Meeting <br />May 28, 2008 <br />Mayor Capra stated that they had a storm event that could have been much worse. She <br />reported that fifty individuals from Centerville will go to help with cleanup. She stated <br />that our County has a Mutual Aid Agreement but, as of now, Hugo has not requested <br />mutual aid from the County. She added that we have ten spots left for people to go, and <br />there will be additional times they will need volunteers. She stated that Eagle Brook <br />church is working with us on this. The City Hall in Hugo said they have plenty of <br />volunteers. <br />Mayor Capra stated that we did what we had to do, which is register as a group. There is <br />a concern of having 1,000 people there to volunteer and no place to put them. <br />Councilmember Paar stated that if volunteers were not needed now, they would be <br />needed in the future. <br />Mayor Capra stated that there might be other clean up days. She said we would not know <br />until end of the day on Saturday. <br />Mayor Capra added that her thoughts and prayers go out to victims. She stated that their <br />City Council is doing a great job. <br />Centerville Police Sergeant Pat Aldridge stated that he was glad the tornado was one mile <br />north of us because, if not, it would have been devastating. He stated that Centerville did <br />have minor damage mainly due to hail. He didn't realize how bad Hugo was until the <br />next day, and he was surprised they didn't ask for Centerville's help. <br />Sergeant Aldridge reported that they made 35 squares to cover the map of Centerville, <br />and the Fire Department and Police Department went through every grid. He stated that <br />Centerville, Cottonwood and Brian Drive had the worst hail damage. Some areas had <br />loss of power, there was one house that lost a roof, there were two hail-damaged police <br />cars, and the hail was 1-1/2 feet deep in some areas. <br />Mayor Capra stated that she would like to commend Officer Jacobson and the other <br />police officers that drove around immediately to make sure no one needed help <br />Public Works Director Palzar reported that there was a meeting on May 27 at noon, and <br />thirteen people were in attendance. They were asked why there was only one Public <br />Works person there. He stated that the generator on Peltier Lake is still functioning. He <br />added that he wanted to commend everyone, and stated that we were all very lucky. <br />Sergeant Aldridge stated that this was his first command center encounter. He added that <br />it would help prepare him for future problems <br />Mayor Capra stated that she talked to the coordinators regarding Hugo's clean-up day. <br />She was told that Hugo would like to do their own patrolling. <br />Sergeant Aldridge reported that they have had reserves there today. <br />Page 4 of 10 <br />
