<br />March 14,2001 <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br /> <br />Mayor Swedberg questioned how the blacktop companies could afford to keep the prices <br />consistent for three (3) years based on the fluctuation in petroleum prices. Mr. March <br />noted it is surprising they are able to quote a price for a three (3) year period but stated it <br />appeared to be a good deal for the City. <br /> <br />Motion by Council Member Nelson. seconded bv Council Member Travis to accept <br />the bid of Allied Blacktop Company for years 2001-2003 for 15.000 feet of crack <br />fillinl!: at 39 cents per lineal foot. All in favor. Motion carried unanimouslv. <br /> <br />7. Additional Office Upgrade (Storage/Packet Preparation Area - Unit). <br /> <br />Mr. March noted Staff is in need of more storage and work surface for packet <br />preparation. He then noted Staff is requesting approval to purchase off the rack <br />residential cabinets with a countertop that public works will stain and varnish. Staff <br />anticipates these cabinets should cost approximately $600. <br /> <br />Motion bv Council Member Nelson. seconded by Council Member Capra to <br />approve StaWs request for cabinets and countertops in an amount not to exceed <br />$600. All in favor. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />8. Authorization to Advertise for Full-Time Receptionist <br /> <br />Mr. March stated he was pleased to report that Ms. Sweeney is picking up the <br />bookkeeping quickly and he would like authorization to recruit for an entry-level <br />receptionist. <br /> <br />Mayor Swedberg noted that Council Member Broussard Vickers had voiced a concern <br />that future City employees have more computer knowledge and then suggested this <br />matter be tabled to the next meeting to allow for Council Member Broussard Vicker's <br />input. <br /> <br />Motion by Council Member Nelson. seconded bv Council Member Capra to table <br />this matter to the next Council meetin\:. All in favor. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Mr. March noted Staff might not be able to keep up with things the way they would like <br />to because they are short staffed. He then noted there were some things that were not <br />kept up with, the previous way the accounting was being done. <br /> <br />9. Flammable Waste Traps <br /> <br />Mr. Palzer explained to Council that a flammable waste trap is a trap that catches salt, <br />sand and flammables such as gas and oil, and only allows the water to flow into the City <br />sewer. He explained the new public works building does not have a flammable waste <br />trap and is not connected to City sewer. He recently was made aware that the waste from <br />the public works building flows directly into the creek without being treated. He then <br />explained it would cost approximately $35,000 to run City sewer and water and to add <br />the flammable waste traps. <br /> <br />Page 11 of 15 <br />
