<br />property . <br /> <br />ALTERATION. Any change, addition or modification in construction or occupancy of an existing <br />structure. <br /> <br />ALTERATION, STRUCTURAL. Any change in the supporting members of a building or <br />structure, such as bearing walls, columns, beams or girders; provided, however, the application of any <br />exterior siding to an existing building for the purpose of beautifying and modernizing shall not be <br />considered a STRUCTURAL ALTERATION. <br /> <br />ANTENNA. Any system of wires, poles, rods, reflecting discs, satellite dishes or similar devices <br />used for the transmission or reception of electromagnetic waves external to or attached to the exterior <br />of any building. <br /> <br />APARTMENT. A room or suite of rooms, including bath and kitchen facilities, in a multiple- <br />family building, designed for occupancy by a single family. <br /> <br />APARTMENT, ACCESSORY. An apartment that is secondary and incidental to a principal use or <br />building. <br /> <br />AREA IDENTIFICA TION SIGN. A freestanding sign which identifies the name of a residential <br />subdivision, commercial or industrial development. <br /> <br />BASEMENT. A portion of a building located partly underground, having more than 50 percent of <br />its floor-to-ceiling height below the average grade of the adjoining ground. Split level, split entry and <br />earth sheltered homes shall be construed to satisfy BASEMENT requirements. <br /> <br />BLOCK. A tract of land bounded by streets, or a combination of streets, parks, cemeteries, <br />railroad rights-of-way, shorelines, waterways or corporate boundary lines of the city. <br /> <br />BOARD. The Board of Appeals and Adjustments ofthe city. <br /> <br />BOATHOUSE. A structure designed and used solely for the storage of boats or boating <br />equipment. <br /> <br />BUILDABLE AREA. The space remaining on a zoning lot after minimum yard and open space <br />requirements have been met. <br /> <br />BUILDING. Any structure having a roof which may provide shelter or enclosure of persons, <br />animal or chattel, and when the structure is divided by party walls without openings, each portion of <br />the building so separated shall be deemed a separate building. <br /> <br />BUILDING COVERAGE.
