Local election officials from Sherburne, Anoka and Wright counties are
being invited to attend.

There is a dual purpose for this meeting. First and foremost, Mark would like to personally thank as many of the
local election administrators as possible for all of the work they have done to ensure the success of the 2008
primary and general elections. However, much of the 1 Yo hour meeting will be to listen to your experiences with
the 2008 election and the Senate recount. We have developed preliminary election reform ideas for consideration
by the 2009 legislature based upon the experiences of election officials over the past three months. These
reforms will attempt to address some of the problems you may have encountered with absentee ballots and other
recount issues.

Before we finalize the reform proposals, we want to receive input from the local officials who are on the front lines
of election administration. Your input and ideas are essential to crafting a successful election reform package.
This meeting will give you an opportunity to tell Mark what laws and rules may be obsolete and identify new ideas
for improving election administration.

We hope you will be able to join us at this meeting. Mark would also welcome several senior Election Judges who
could contribute valuable information to the dialougue. If you are able to attend, please RSVP to this message
and let me know If you or someone from your city will be attending.

My best regards.

Sincerely,

Jim

Jim Gelbmann
Deputy Secretary of State
180 State Office Building
Saint Paul, Minnesota 55155
(651) 201-1344 (office)
(651) 334-4077 (cell)

NOTICE: E-mail correspondence to and from the Office of the Secretary of Stale of Minnesota may be
public data subject to the Minnesota Data Practices Act and/or may be disclosed to !bird parties

2/24/2009
