<br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION SUPPORTING AMENDM~NT OF MINNESOTA STATUTES TO ALLOW FOR <br />THE .PAYMENT" OF PENSION BENEFITS AFTER 20 YEARS OF SERVICE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Cities of Circle Pines, Lino Lakes, and Center- <br />vill~ have entered into a joint powers agreement to create the <br />centennial Fire Department; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Circle Pines and Centerville Fire Departments <br />were merged ~o create the Centennial Fire Department; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the centennial Fireman's Relief Assocation was in- <br />corporated to provide pension benefits to members of the new Fire <br />Department; Clnd <br /> <br />~\~I <br />~ . <br />{ , <br />> ' <br />r;:-c, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Minnesota Statutes required that the Circle Pines <br />an~ Centerville Fireman's Relief Associations be dissolved and that <br />all pensi9n funds be distributed; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Minnesota Statutes prohibit the Centennial Fireman's <br />Relief Association from distributing pension benefits for at least <br />t~n years, ang then only on a partially vested basis; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, members of the former Circle Pines and Centerville <br />~ire Departments will reach twenty years of tire service but will <br />be prohibited from receiving a pension due to Statu~ory limitations; <br />theh " <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ci~y of Centerv~le. <br />hereby supports the adopt1on of specialeg1s- <br />lationthatwill allow the Centennial Fireman's Relief Association <br />to pay a pension to each member of the previous Circle Pines and <br />Centerville Fire Departments, after 20 years of combined service. <br />S~chpension to be determined by the member's accrued liability in <br />the Centennial Relief Association: and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Senators Novak and Dahl, and <br />Representatives Voss and Quinn be requested to work tow~rd passage <br />of such legislation'during the current session of the Legislature. <br /> <br />Adopted this <br /> <br />13th <br /> <br />'day of <br /> <br />February <br /> <br />, 1985. <br /> <br />.x~ <br /> <br />MAYOR <br /> <br />1<, <br /> <br />)C, . <br />, (lk~~ <br /> <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />CD~ V <br />CITY CLERK <br /> <br />(2y\ . <br />_)....J.c,-7\.-r~'--' <br /> <br />'Z:(~ <br />
