<br />North Metro Telecommunications Commission <br />Meeting Talking Points <br />April 15, 2009 <br /> <br />. A public hearing on the cable commission's exercise of rights under the franchise with Comcast <br />was opened and then continued to the May meeting. This was the next step in the ongoing dispute <br />with Comeast regarding their refusal to supply necessary documents in order for the commission <br />to perform a franchise fee audit. Legal Counsel Steve Guzzetta explained that Comcast had <br />supplied new data, but that be just got it and hadn't had time to determine whether it satisfied the <br />Commission's original data request of August 2008. The commission and Comeast continue to try <br />to resolve the franchise fee audit issue. <br /> <br />. A new documentary workshop is being offered to high school stodents this summer. The <br />workshop will last for seven weeks, meeting twice a week, beginning June 16"'. Participants will <br />learn how to operate the equipment, and how to write and assemble a documentary. They will <br />learn what it takes to be in the film and television industry, and what film school is like from <br />someone who has done both. So far two stodents have registered and there have been several <br />other inquiries. The class size is limited to 16. <br /> <br />. NMTV will be covering most of the Minnesota Thunder professional soccer games live this year. <br />They will also share the programs with other community television facilities throughout the state. <br />NMTV's PR staff is working with Thunder's PR staff on a sponsorship/ad revenue sharing plan. <br /> <br />. NMTV staff member, T.J. Tronson, coordinated and produced video coverage of the Every Fifteen <br />Minutes Project. He videotaped and edited segments covering what happens to a student who gets <br />is a car accident after driving drunk. He edited all night after the event, so stodents could watch it <br />the next day. <br /> <br />. The FCC is writing rules as to how the broadband stimulus funds can be used. Any cities <br />interested in applying for grants for municipal broadband projects should start formulating plans <br />now.
