Concerns about the
eutmpbicatlon of Peltier J..ake led t'1e District to perfonn a ~y in 2001. entitled HardwtJl)(/ Craelr Outlet
Treatmerrt S~tem - Opti,m Anolys/$. This study evaluated various treatment optiOJl$ near lbe outlet of the Cleek
to aut wallilr from the approximately 17,000 acre watershed. A preferred approach fur creating loadlngs th;ltn
Hardwood Creek before reaching Peltier Lake, the downl!tre8n1 Chain of Lakes, and middle Rice Creek was
identified. The recommended treatment option under comideration by the District is a constructed wetland.
However, as a result of this study, the District is also taking a proactive slq) ill tryin: to determine where in the
Herdwood Creek Watershed lbe ~llI'Qe ofphosphOl"U$ is originating ftom. This may allow the Disb:ict to look at
other options to address lhe problem in dilTerem ways.
