Cities asked to send redistricting
information to counties

Ann Higgins

As cities complete the redrawing of
ward boundaries and changes to
precinct lines, it is equally important
to remember to send county auditors
the following information immedi-
ately after the city council has ofli-
cially adopted new plans for ward
and/or precinct boundaries. If your
city does not have wards, it is still
necessary to forward new precinct
boundary and polling place location
informationto the county as soon as
possible.
Counties must have this informa-
tion in hand befure they can comply
with statutes that direct the redistrict-
ing of county conunissioner district
boundaries. The timeframe for county
redistricting is extremely short. If your
city has completed redrawing precinct
and/or ward boundaries, be sure the
following information reaches the
. county auditor this week.

The following information must
be sent to the county auditor:
1. Precinct boundary changes, as per
M.S. 204B.14, subd.4.
2. Polling place changes, as per M.S.
204B.14, subd. 16 and Minn. Rules
8210.0700 and 8210.2300.
3. Ward boundary changes, as per
M.S. 201.021; .022, and Minn.
Rules 8200.9315 and 810.0700.
In addition, maps showing the
oounaaries of re-established precinctS
must be sent to the Office of the
Secretary of State (M.S. 204B.14,
subd.5).
It is also prudent to keep in mind
that M.S. 205.84, subds. 1 and 2 impose
a duty to redistrict wards and to
comply with the statute subject to the
imposition of a penalty that provides
that no compensation is to be paid to
either the mayor or councilmembers
until wards are either reconfirmed or
redefined as required by this statute. ..

Visit the League
on the web:
www.lmnc.org

for aU the latest infonnation about how
your city can participate and benefit from LMC
and LMCIT services, resources, and training
opportunities.

Proposed roles
relating to water
quality assessment
process

Remi Stone

The Minnesota Pollution Control
Agency (MPCA) has announced
proposed rules for the total tnaJ<imum
daily load (TMDL) program.
