<br />Local Units ofGovemment <br /> <br />Page 1 of2 <br /> <br />- <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br /> <br />Lawful Gambling <br />Information and Requirements <br />for <br />Local Units of Government <br />in <br />Minnesota <br /> <br />To obtain forms in an alternative format u::h as large print or Braille, cootact the Minnesota Gambling Control Board at 651-639-4000. <br /> <br />Authority of city or county. <br />The extent that a city or COWlty has authority over lawful gambling in its jurisdiction is addressed in Minnesota Statute <br />3490211. - <br /> <br />A city or COWlty has the authority to adopt more stringent regulations pertaining to lawful gambling within its jurisdiction. <br />However, there are limitations on that authority. <br /> <br />1. The city or COWlty may not require an organizatioo to make a contribution to the city or COWlty as a condition to opera~ <br />within that city or COWlty, except for an investigation fee or tax and/or contribution to a ten percent fund. Information <br />regarding ten percent funds is contained further on in this page. <br /> <br />2. The city or COWlty may not require an additional gambling license or permit. <br /> <br />Investigatiou fee. <br />A city or COWlty may charge an investigation fee for applying fur or renewing a premises permit or bingo hall license. The <br />investigation fee may not exceed the following limits: <br /> <br />1. $500 for cities of the first class, <br />2. $250 for cities of the second class, <br />3. $100 for all other cities, and <br />4. $375 for COWlties. <br /> <br />The investigation fee must be used for regulation of lawful gambling in that jurisdiction. <br /> <br />Local gambling tal< . report required. <br />A city or COWlty may impose a local gambling tax, only if they do not charge an investigation fee or other local taxes on la <br />gambling. The tax, up to three percent per year, may be imposed ooly if the amount is necessary to cover the costs to regul <br />gambling in their jurisdiction. <br /> <br />A report must be submitted to the Gambling Control Board by March 15 of each year, using form kG500 - City or CO!!!!!) <br />Annual ~rt.
