<br />" <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />State of Minnesota <br />County of Anoka <br /> <br /> <br />tervi[[e <br /> <br />City of Centerville <br />Resolution #02-017 <br /> <br />'E,";Ja6l"L4ie.{ 1857 <br /> <br />Proclamation <br /> <br />National Small Cities Day <br />"Building Quality Communities" <br />Friday, June 14,2002 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, small cities under 50,000 population constitute the vast majority of cities across the <br />United States; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, small cities provide opportunities which allow millions of people across America to lead <br />better lives; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, small cities build quality communities through thoughtful, comprehensive planning and <br />cooperative efforts with neighboring cities which improve the quality oflife for all citizens; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the federal government is a partner in building quality communities, and must be <br />encouraged to continue to sponsor necessary programs and supportive legislation to improve <br />communities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, state governments are partners in building quality communities, and must be encouraged <br />to continue to sponsor necessary programs and supportive legislation to improve communities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, organizations, businesses, and citizens are partners in building quality communities, and <br />must be encouraged to continue to support efforts that make their communities better places in which <br />to live; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Directors and the Small Cities Council of the National League of Cities <br />have declared June 14,2002 as National Small Cities Day; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Small Cities Council of the National League of Cities has challenged all cities, <br />towns, and villages across America to proclaim June 14, 2002 as National Small Cities Day, and to <br />conduct activities - such as news conferences, public service announcements, and events in local <br />schools and community centers - on that day which highlight the different ways in which the federal <br />government, state governments, organizations, businesses, and citizens partner with small cities to <br />build quality communities and better the lives of all citizens; and <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, the Council of the City ofCenterville, County of Anoka, Minnesota does <br />hereby proclaim Friday, June 14, 2002 as National Small Cities Day, and encourages President <br />George W. Bush, Congress, state governments, organizations, businesses, and all citizens to join US in <br />recognizing this event, and to work together on this day and throughout the year to build quality <br />communities in small cities to better the lives of all citizens. <br />
