<br />COUNTY STATE AID HIGHWAY 8/14 IMPROVEMENTS <br />1-35 TO HIGHWAY 61 <br /> <br />PROJECT BACKGROUND INFORMATION <br /> <br />NEED FOR PROJECT <br /> <br />Traffic Operations <br /> <br />~ Traffic volumes on CSAH 8/14 more than doubled on segments of the road since <br />1992. Existing traffic volumes range from 11,000 to 16,400 average daily <br />traffic (ADT). <br /> <br />~ The two-way average daily traffic volume on the roadway is projected to increase <br />by 2 to 3 times within the next 20 years to 22,000 to 32,000 vehicles. <br /> <br />~ Engineering studies show that 2-lane roadways begin to experience <br />unacceptable operations at 10,000 to 12,000 vehicles per day in developing <br />areas, depending on access conditions. <br /> <br />~ This roadway is classified as a Minor Arterial. Its primary function is to provide <br />regional mobility. <br /> <br />Roadwav Condition <br /> <br />~ Bituminous roadways are designed for a service life of 35 years. This roadway <br />was constructed 35 years ago and received an overlay 7 to 10 years ago. <br /> <br />Pedestrian Safety <br /> <br />~ There are no bicycle or pedestrian paths along the roadway except the sidewalks <br />in front of the residential properties near Highway 61. <br /> <br />PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS <br />~ <br /> <br />~ <br />~ <br /> <br />V> <br />\df'~ ~ <br />~" G I <br />~c.h~\ Y <br />'L0 VJ ;JJ <br />. 4:J l"vlP/6 <br />r1,l(). ,.-.l <br />\"" VV' <br />yo{' <br /> <br />Reconstruction of the roadway with 4 through lanes, turn lanes, and a center <br />median.
