\'

CHIEF'S REPORT
NOVEMBER 2002

Thanksgiving. A day set aside for us to be with our loved ones and give thanks for life,
families, faith, freedom, health, home, and work. We are a blessed nation. I'm glad we
pause to reflect and give thanks. I was able to enjoy several days off around the
Thanksgiving holiday and spend quality time with family and friends. I hope your
holiday was meaningful as well.

Corporal Glen McCarty and Officer Dale Bernardy along with several Centennial
Firefighters were honored by Allina Transportation on November 19th for their role in
saving the young teenage girl from Circle Pines with a defibrillator. The highlight of the
ceremony was having the survivor present with her family.

Chief David Gustafson of the Ramsey Police Department retired this month. Deputy
Chief Makela and I were able to attend a gathering held in his honor on November 4th
The Ramsey facility was very impressive. Constructed in the late 1990's, it is very user
friendly, functional and without frills. I did not inquire of the cost or architect; however,
we both felt it is a design worth considering.

All officers attended the night and adverse weather shoot held at the Anoka County
outdoor range during November. Officer Gleason attended a day-long class on changes
upcoming in the State accident report form. He will be instructing all officers on those
changes at our next departmental meeting.

Officers and staff enjoyed using 23 days of accrued vacation, 15 holidays, 8 comp days
and found it necessary to use 12 sick days during the month of November.

Meetings I attended included our regularly scheduled commission meeting, a
departmental management meeting, union negotiations with Chair Varian and
Commissioner Pitchford, a FTO meeting with Officers Bragelman and Corlew, a best
practices meeting with Officers Bernardy and Corlew-City of Centerville staff and
Centerville bar owners, Anoka Chiefs, Centennial Community Network, Anoka Co.
emergency threat assessment, an ACJLEC TAC 800 MHz meeting and a luncheon
meeting with the Circle Pines City Attorney.

/.

L__ _
