<br />city of Centerville Ord #24 <br />Effective: 10/27/99 <br /> <br />(6) An animal control officer and/or police officer may enter upon the <br />private property of another for the purpose of removing such quarantined <br />animal to an animal shelter when it has been detennined that such <br />quarantined Animal bas not been T11llintained by the owner in a manner <br />consistent with the provisions of this Section. <br /> <br />24. 04 Non-Domestic Animals. It shall be illegal for any person to own, possess, harbor, or offer <br />for sale, any non-domestic Animal within the City limits. An exception shall be made to this <br />prohibition for animAl~ specifically trained for and actually providing assistance to the physically <br />challenged and for those animal~ brought into the City for educational purposes, as part of an <br />operating zoo, veterinarian clinic, scientific research laboratory, or a licensed show or exhibition. <br /> <br />24.05 Farm Animals. Farm animal~ shall only be kept in an agricultural district of the City, or on a <br />residential lot of at least ten (10) acres in size provided that no animal shelter shall be within three <br />hundred (300) teet of an adjoining piece of property. An exception shall be made to this Subsection <br />for those animAl~ brought into the City as part of education, an operating zoo, veterinarian clinic, <br />scientific research laboratory, or a licensed show or exhibition. <br /> <br />24.06 Impounding. <br /> <br />Subd. 1 Runuing at Large. Any animal rllnnillg at large is hereby declared a public nuisance. Any <br />police officer may impound any animal found unlicensed or any animal found rllnning at large and <br />shall give notice of the impounding to the owner of such "";T11llI, ifknown. <br /> <br />Snbd. 2 Reclaiming. All animals conveyed to the pound shall be kept, withhumane treatment and <br />sufficient food and water for their comfort, at least five regular business days to a maximumofseven <br />days, unless reclaimed sooner by its owner or keeper as provided by this Ordinance. If the animal is <br />a dangerous animal as defined under' 24.01, Subd. 5, it may be impounded for a period of time <br />including the time required to complete an appeal process. The owner of an aniT11ll1 is required to <br />pay the entire costs of confinement of any animal Immediately on confinement of any ani~I. <br />reasonable effort shall be made by the impo1Jtlllillg official to n.otilY the owner of the animal, of the <br />aniT11ll11' confinement, and procedures to be followed for reclamation of such animal Any animalmay <br />be redeemed from the pound by the owner upon performance of the following: <br /> <br />of a release fee and rece' t of a release permit from the _ <br />'and <br /> <br /> <br />(2) Payment ofmaintenance costs, as provided by the pound, per day or any <br />part of day while animal is in said pound; and <br /> <br />Page 7 of 16 <br />
