<br /> <br />'Esta6[isned" 18S7 <br /> <br />STAFF REPORT <br />CENTERVll.LE CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br />Date: <br /> <br />July 14,2004 <br /> <br />To: <br /> <br />Honorable Mayor and City Council Members <br />Ms. Kim Moore-Sykes, City Administrator <br /> <br />EDen Paulseth, Finance Director c(l <br /> <br />Credit Card Use <br /> <br />From: <br /> <br />Re: <br /> <br />......................................................................... <br /> <br />On several occasions, Council has revisited the question of whether or not to allow the <br />use of credit cards to collect payments from customers. <br /> <br />Recently, the City of South St. Paul surveyed Minnesota cities in an attempt to fInd out <br />how many cities are allowing credit cards or other forms of electronic payment and what <br />kinds of problems they may be encountering as a result. The results of the survey are <br />attached and can be summarized as follows: <br /> <br />. An estimated 30% of Metro Area and larger out-state cities allow some form <br />of electronic payment; <br />. Water and Sewer Bills - Only a small number of cities accepted credit cards, <br />but all cities that accept some form of electronic payment accept ACH <br />payments; <br />. Permits and Charges - Few cities allowed the use of credit cards for permit <br />fees because of the potential for high service charges on larger permit fees. <br /> <br />Recently, I met with a representative of Midwest Processing to discuss the possibility of <br />accepting credit cards at City Hall. The information obtained from that meeting is <br />summarized below: <br /> <br />.
