Interim rates for all customer types <br />effective October 2004 <br /> <br />CenterPoint Energy Minnegasco's rate case wiff help recover increased costs, including pipeline relocation <br />and reconstruction for street and highway projects. <br /> <br />On July 14, 2004, CenterPoint Energy Minnegasco filed a request with the <br />Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (MPUC) for new natural gas distribution <br />rates. This is the company's first rate case since 1995. The filing will increase the <br />company's annual revenues by $21.77 million or 1.8 percent. The average residential <br />customer will receive a 4.1 percent increase, or $38 per year. lnterim (temporary) <br />rates begin October 1, 2004. Public hearings on the filing begin in the fall. A final <br />decision from the MPUC is exp~cted in May 2005, with final rates taking effect <br />during the summer of 2005. <br /> <br />Rate case basics <br /> <br />A rate case is the regulatory process that public utilities (natural gas, electric and <br />telephone) must follow to formally change base rates for their customers.
