<br />City of Centerville Ord #24 <br />Effective: 10/27/99 <br /> <br />offered for sale or any other merchandising, Every commercial kennel shall be enclosed or fenced in <br />such a manner as to prevent the running at large or escape of the domestic animal(s) confined therein. <br /> <br />Subd. 9 Owner. Any person, fum, corporation, organization, or department, possessing, feeding, <br />harboring, keeping, having an interest in, or having temporary or permanent custody or control of the <br />animal, <br /> <br />Subd. 10 Animal Control Officer. A person employed by or under contract with the City or a <br />licensed peace officer who is responsible for animal control enforcement, <br /> <br />24.02 Restrictions. <br /> <br />Subel. 1 Running at Large Prohibited. It shalI be unlawful for the domestic animal of any person <br />who owns, harbors, or keeps a domestic animal to run at large, Dogs or cats must be on a leash <br />accompanied by an individual capable of controlling the animal as needed. Subject to the above <br />restrictions, dogs and cats shall be permitted in streets or on public land unless the City has posted an <br />area with signs reading "Dogs or Cats Prohibited. .. <br /> <br />Subd. 2 License Required. <br /> <br />(I) All dogs, cats and ferrets over the age of six months kept, harbored, or <br />maintained by their owners in the City, shall be licensed and registered with <br />the City, Licenses shall be issued by City Staff upon payment of the license <br />fee, The license fee will be established by Council resolution or separate <br />Ordinance, Such license shall be renewed every two years for the life of the <br />animal provided that the owner shows proof every two years that the animal <br />has shots within that period and provided the address of the owner remains <br />the same. The owner shall state, at the time application is made for the license <br />and upon forms provided for such purpose, his or her name and address and <br />the name, breed, color, and sex of each animal owned or kept by him or her. <br />No license shall be granted for an animal which has not been vaccinated <br />against distemper and rabies, as provided in this Ordinance. Vaccination shall <br />be performed only by a doctor qualified to practice veterinary medicine in the <br />state in which animaI is vaccinated. A veterinarian who vaccinates an animal <br />to be licensed in the City shall complete a certificate of vaccination, One copy <br />shall be issued to the animal owner for affixing to the license application. <br /> <br />(2) Upon payment of the license fee, City Staff shall issue to the owner a <br />license certificate and metallic tag for each animal licensed, The tag shall have <br />stamped on it the year for which it is issued and the number corresponding <br />with the number on the certificate, Every owner shall be required to provide <br /> <br />Page 3 of! 6 <br />
