Insecticide Options for

Controlling EAB

Insecticides that can effectively control EAB
fall into four categories: (1) systemic insec-
ticides that are applied as soil injections or
drenches; (2) systemic insecticides applied
as trunk injections; (3) systemic insecticides
applied as lower trunk sprays; and (4) pro-
tective cover sprays that are applied to the
trunk, main branches, and (depending on the
label) foliage.

Insecticide formulations and application
methods that have been evaluated for control
of EAB are listed in Table 1. Some are mar-
keted for use by homeowners while others
are intended for use only by professional
applicators. The "active ingredient" refers to
the compound in the product that is actually
toxic to the insect.

Formulations included in Table 1 have been
evaluated in multiple field trials conducted
by the authors. Insecticide options for professionals and homeowners for controlling EAB that
have been tested in multiple university trials. Some products may not be labeled for use in
all states. Some of the listed products failed to protect ash trees when they were appiied at
labeled rates. Inclusion of a product in this table does not imply that it is endorsed by the
authors or has been consistently effective for EAB control.
