<br />IV. SUB-COMMITTTE REPORTS <br /> <br />1. Parade <br /> <br />Committee Members Thill and Rehbine submitted a draft budget. Committee Member <br />Thill stated that the budget had increased due to postage and the anticipated additions of <br />several bands. Committee Members Thill and Rehbine stated that they are continuing to <br />progress on mailings, parade applications, route approval and permits to obtain same. <br />Discussion ensued regarding volunteers, the amount of volunteers during the planning <br />stages, concerns regarding a quorum with several members participating on the same sub- <br />committees and amount of volunteers needed for the event itself. Chair DeVine <br />questioned whether a line-up had been arranged and Committee Member Thill reported <br />that a line-up had not been completed to date; however, it was anticipated that the parade <br />would be larger than last year and more organized. Chair DeVine encouraged the Parade <br />Sub-Committee to invite either Police Chief Heckman or Assistant Police Chief Makkela <br />to attend meetings to offer comments and suggestions. <br /> <br />Discussion ensued in regards to last years $5,000 budget and the possibility of obtaining <br />participation of bands. Committee Member Rehbine stated that High School bands <br />would not be participating due to the lack of schools having bands and/or their touring for <br />the year is completed subsequent to the Fourth of July. The Committee is attempting to <br />obtain information on drum and bugle corps, etc. Committee Member Thill stated that he <br />has attempted to contact the individual in charge of the Shriners; however, attempts have <br />failed. <br /> <br />Discussion ensued regarding charging an entrance fee/donation for parade participates <br />and the need to generate additional funding due to the increased budget. Funding could <br />be used for refreshments, plaques, etc. Committee Member Sweeney stated that due to <br />last year's problems with BearCom, the Committee would be receiving a discount on <br />walkie-talkies this year. <br /> <br />1.5 Softball Tournament <br /> <br />Chair De Vine stated that he recently spoke with Mr. Bill Bisek in regards to a softball <br />tournament. A representative from the Minnesota Recreation Association stated that the <br />City of Centerville, Fete des Lacs City Celebration, has an extremely good chance of <br />hosting the regional tournament for Class C or D teams. It was stated that Class C or D <br />teams would be hosted in the City of White Bear Lake and the other location had yet to <br />be determined. Chair DeVine stated that Laurie LaMotte Park meets the requirements <br />needed to host same. Chair DeVine stated that Fete des Lacs Committee would not have <br />to provide prize money or advertise for teams. The Committee would however, have to <br />charge admission and parking, if desired. Committee Member Peil questioned when a <br />confirmation would be received. Chair DeVine stated that information was to be <br />forwarded, however it had yet to be received. <br /> <br />2. Street Dance <br /> <br />Committee Member Peil reported that they have received a contract to book the <br />"Originals" for Saturday evening.
