<br />Section 7 <br /> <br />CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS <br /> <br />Sec. 7.1. Compliance with Building Code <br />All signs shall comply with the appropriate detailed provisions of the city Building Code relaling <br />to design, structural members and connections. Signs shall also comply with the provisions of <br />the applicable Electrical Code and the additional construction standards hereinafter set forth in <br />th is Section. <br /> <br />Sec. 7.2. Construction of Signs, Auxiliary Specifications <br /> <br />(a) Identification and Marking. <br />Each sign hereafter erected or remodelled shall bear, in a permanent position thereon a <br />clearly legible identification plate slating the name and adress of the owner of the sign. <br />and the person, firm or corporation responsible for its construction, erection and the date <br />of erection. Electrical signs shall be marked with input amperages at the full load input <br />similar to the CSA label or the UL(48). <br /> <br />(b) Sign Identification Tag. <br />Each sign shall have a two by four inch sticker placed on one of the faces of the sign that <br />identifies the permit number that was originally issued by the Administrator. This sticker shall <br />be renewed on a bi-annual bas'ls as provided for in this Code. <br /> <br />(c) Obstruction to Exits. <br />No sign shall be erected, constructed or maintained so as to obstruct any fire escape, re- <br />quired exit, window or door open'lng used as a means of egress. <br /> <br />(d) Obstruction to Ventilation. <br />No sign shall be attached in any form, shape or manner which will interfere with any <br />opening required lor ventilation. except that such signs may be erected in front of and <br />may cover transom windows when not in violation of the provision of the BUilding or Fire <br />Prevention Codes. <br /> <br />(e) Clearance from High Voltage Power Lines. <br />Signs shall be located in such a way that they maintain horizontal 3nd "/ertical clearance <br />of all overhead electrical conductors in accordance with National Electrical Code Speci- <br />fications, depending on voltages concerned. However, in no case shall a sign be installed <br />closer than 24 inches horizontally or vertically from any conductor or public utility guy <br />wire. <br /> <br />(I) Drainage. <br />The roofs of all marquees exceeding 40 square feet shall be properly guttered and con- <br />nected with downspouts to storm sewers so that water will not drip or flow into public <br />sidewalks or streets. <br /> <br />Sec. 7.3. Free-Standing Signs - Materials <br />All free-standing sign structures or poles shall be self-supporting structures erected on ana <br />permanently attached to concrete foundations. Such structures or poles shall be labricated <br />oniy from painted steel or such other materials as may be approved by the Building Code of <br />the city. <br /> <br />Sec. 7.4. Electric Signs <br /> <br />All electric signs shall be approved and labeled as conforming to the standards of the United <br />States Bureau of Standards, the Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc., the Canadian Standards As- <br />sociation (CSA), or other s'lmi\ar institutions of recognized standing, The full number of Illum- <br />Inating elements thereof shall be kept in satisfactory working condition or immediately repaired <br /> <br />37 <br />
