<br />Essential Services - Public and private utilities required by the resident and working <br />population. <br /> <br />Family - An individual, or two (2) or more persons related by blood, marriage or adoption, <br />or a group of not more than five (5) persons not so related, living together a,s a single <br />housekeeping unit using common cooking and kitchen facilities. <br /> <br />Facade - The exterior wall of a building exposed to a public view or that wall viewed by <br />persons not within the building. <br /> <br />Fence - Any artificially constructed barrier of any material or combination of materials <br />erected to enclose or screen areas of land, <br /> <br />Flood Plain - Flood plain or flood-prone area means any land area susceptible to being <br />inundated by water from any source. <br /> <br />Floodway - The channel of a river or other watercourse and the adjacent land areas that <br />must be reserved in order to discharge the 1 DO-year flood without cumulatively increasing <br />the water surface elevation more than one foot at any point. <br /> <br />Floodway Fringe - All that land in a flood plain not lying within a delineated f1oodway. <br />land within a floodway fringe is subject to inundation by relatively low velocity flows and <br />shallow water depths. <br /> <br />Floor Area - The sum of the gross horizontal areas of the several floors of a building or <br />dwelling unit, measured from the exterior walls or from the centerline of party walls <br />separating buildings, excluding basements. <br /> <br />Floor Area Ratio - The total floor area on a zoning lot divided by the total site area of the <br />lot or parcel being developed. <br /> <br />Freestanding Sign - Any sign supported by structures or supports that are permanently <br />anchored in the ground and that are independent from any building or structure. <br /> <br />Frontage - The front or frontage is that side of a lot abutting on a street or way and <br />ordinarily regarded as the front of the lot, but it shall not be considered as the ordinary <br />sideline of a corner lot. <br /> <br />Garage, Private - Any accessory building or an accessory portion of a principal building <br />designed or used solely for the storage of motor vehicles, boats and other personal <br />belongings which are owned or used by the occupants of the building to which it is <br />accessory. <br /> <br />Glare - A sensation of brightness within the visual field that causes annoyance, discomfort, <br />or loss in visual performance and visibility. <br /> <br />Page 6 of65 <br />
