The City of Newport faces many challenges and opportunities over the
next 20 years as US TH 61 is reconstructed. The opportunities that the
City face include cleaning up undesirable and inefficient land uses and
redeveloping them into attractive places to live, work, shop and play.

HK Gi worked with the City to prepare a redevelopment plan for 7'" Avenue
that includes a new City Hall, additional park and open space areas that
provide separation and open space between the railroad and future
development, and a pedestrian path system that provides connections to
greater Newport and the Mississippi River. These various public
improvement projects are intended to attract private investment and help
ensure that the character of new development incorporates character
elements from the surrounding area like historic preservation in the street
pattern and the use of the historic switching tower at the terminus of 6'"
Street, historically called 'Main Street.'

This redevelopment plan is the fIrst of many projects that are listed as
implementation steps in the 1999 Comprehensive Plan for the City of
Newport. This Comprehensive Plan was also developed by HKGi.

~~

7th Avenue Redevelopment
Plan

Newport, Minnesota

City af Newpart

Hoisington Koegler Group Inc,

11111
R!D
