Domestic violence is part of a historical pattern of violence and oppression that disproportionately <br />impacts women and children. <br /> <br />. Domestic violence affects those of all classes, genders, ethnicities, faith communities, races, sexual <br />orientations, ages and different abilities. <br /> <br />. Domestic violence is not limited to physical abuse; it includes emotional, financial, sexual, spiritual <br />and psychological abuse. It is about power and control over others. <br /> <br />. Domestic violence is a crime and a violation of human rights. <br /> <br />. Prostitution is a form of violence against women and children. <br /> <br />. Domestic violence is a direct link to other forms of violence and social problems. <br /> <br />. Violence is a learned behavior and a choice. <br /> <br />. Domestic violence is not a private family matter; it is a community problem. Our success is directly <br />connected to working with members ofthe community. <br /> <br />IHisto~ <br /> <br />In 1977, Margaret Langfeld, Lexi Selvig and Mary Zagaros formed The Anoka County Task Force for <br />Battered Women. A year later, the Task Force established a 24-hour crisis line that provided support, <br />information and referrals to battered women in Anoka County.
