<br />DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES: <br /> <br />1. 4 year B.LT. Degree, one year of building inspections experience or two years of building <br />construction experience. Considerable knowledge of local, state building codes pertaining <br />to building materials and construction methods. <br /> <br />2. Considerable knowledge of construction materials and construction methods. <br /> <br />3. Considerable ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications involving <br />architectural, structural, mechanical electrical and engineering designs. <br /> <br />4. Physical ability to work in and around unfinished structures including climbing ladders, <br />scaffolding, or forms; and to work in unsafe or uncomfortable surroundings, and in all <br />weather conditions. <br /> <br />5. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. <br /> <br />6. Ability to function in stressful situations involving building code enforcement. <br /> <br />SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: <br />I. A valid Minnesota CDr. driver's license to be able to operate all vehicles and equipment of <br />the Department or ability to obtain one within three months. <br />2. Building Official Certification and Class D Water and Class SD Wastewater Collection <br />System Certification. All required licenses and certifications must be maintained as active <br />and valid by the incumbent. <br /> <br />PHYSICAL DEMANDS: <br />The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an <br />employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations <br />may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. <br /> <br />While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to be outside 10 <br />varying weather and temperatures; frequent use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, <br />or controls; and reaching with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, <br />walk, bend, squat, step up and step across. <br /> <br />The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities <br />required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. <br /> <br />PRESSURES AND STRESS: <br />The work is usually demanding and sometimes requires the incumbent to work beyond regular <br />work hours.
