<br />€it,:.~~if[~ <br /> <br />STATE OF MINNESbTA <br />~~ Y OF ANOKA <br /> <br />CITY OF CENTERVILLE <br /> <br />ORDINANCE #S <br /> <br />AN AMENDMENT TO ORDINANCE #5 AN ORDINANCE TO PROTECT AND <br />PRESERVE THE PUBLIC'S SAFETY BY REGULATING THE DISCHARGE OF <br />FIREARMS AND DANGEROUS WEAPONS WmTIN THE CITY OF CENTERVILLE <br /> <br />PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Centerville City Council held a public hearing to consider <br />the proposed amended/new language to Ordinance #5 on December 10, 2003 and motioned to <br />adopt same. The language that was amended/new in Ordinance #5 is as follows: <br /> <br />AmendedINew Language: <br /> <br />5.05 Unclaimed Firearms. All firearms including long 8OO(s) and hand gun(s) of every kind, <br />coming into the possession of the Centennial Lakes Police Department, in the course of its <br />operations on behalf of the City, and remaining unclaimed by the owner(s), shall be subject to <br />disposal under the following terms: <br /> <br />A. The Centennial Lakes Police Department shall take reasonable steps to <br />notify the owner of any firearm(s) including long gun(s) or hand gun(s) of <br />every kind subject to disposal that the police department has come into <br />possession of such property. The notice shall further provide that such <br />firearm(s) including long gun(s) or hand gun(s) are subject to disposal <br />within 65 days following the mailing of such notice. <br />B. Such notice shall be made by certified mail at the last known address of <br />the owner( s). <br />C. In the event the actual identity oflast known address of the owner(s) is not <br />reasonably known to the police department, notice may be made by <br />publication. The notice must be published at least once in the official <br />newspaper of the city. <br />D. In the event the owner has actual knowledge that the police department <br />has possession of such firearm(s), no additional notice shall be required. <br />E. After proper notice, and upon the expiration of the 65-day period <br />described herein, all unclaimed firearm(s) shall be destroyed in a manner <br />and under circumstances to be determined by the Chief of Police. <br />F. No unclaimed firearm(s) shall be sold or otherwise used for any purpose. <br /> <br />Sections 5.05 through 5.09 were renumbered 5.06 through 5.09. <br /> <br />Copies are available at City Hall if you desire to review the ordinance in its entirety. If you are <br />unable to obtain a copy from City Hall, the ordinance may be forwarded to you via U.S. Postal <br />Service. The Ordinance is also available on the City's web site at www.centervillemncom. <br /> <br />. <br />
