5. Any conditions at the site of which emergency staff should be aware?
6. Who else has been contacted regarding this emergency condition? Are these individuals
taking any type of action (such as calling other communities or agencies)?
7. Are there currently any emergency personnel on site?
8. Any other critical information?
7.3 CURRENT WATER SOURCES AND SERVICE AREA
Each of the water sources (wells) and the service area were described in detail in Chapter 4 and
will not be reiterated here. Refer to Table 4-1 for information on the wells.
7.4 PROCEDURE FOR AUGMENTING WATER SUPPLIES
Potential sources of water that can be used to augment or replace existing sources have been
examined and are presented below.
7.4.1 Interconnect with Adjacent Communities
There are currently no interconnections between Centerville and its adjacent communities. The
closest water distribution system to Centerville is that of Lino Lakes. Presently, Lino Lakes is
extending a trunk watermain west along Cedar Street to the intersection with 20th Avenue South
and then continuing on to the south. Centerville is now in the preliminary stages of examining
the feasibility of a possible interconnection with Lino Lakes along this extension. The City would
like to have the interconnect line constructed in 1997, and on -line in 1998.
Lino Lakes is furthermore in the process of designing a new 1 MG gallon elevated storage tank
that will be located approximately 1,100 feet south and 1,300 feet east of the intersection of
Interstate 35E and Main Street. The new tank, which will likely be placed into operation in 1998,
will have an overflow elevation of roughly 1054.0, six feet higher than that of Centerville's
elevated storage tank. Therefore, water from the Lino Lakes high level pressure zone would
readily flow into the Centerville system simply by opening a valve between the two systems.
The new Lino Lakes tank will be fed by two new wellhouses with pumping capacities of 800 gpm
and 2,000 gpm. Both wells will be equipped with standby power, thereby greatly reducing the
probability that a power outage will affect the reliability of the wells to provide water to the new
elevated storage tank.
The City of Centerville is still negotiating with the City of Lino Lakes to construct an emergency
interconnect between the two communities. Such an interconnection would dramatically improve
the Centerville and Lino Lakes water systems' ability to provide water during a power outage.
CWP- 260A.080 7 -2
260-080-25
