MEMO
DATE : February 19, 1999
TO : Honorable Mayor and Council
FROM : Jim March
RE Insurance Renewal Issues
********************** * * * * ** * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * **
There are two issues that the Council must address during this annual insurance renewal process.
The first item is whether the Council wishes to waive the statutory municipal tort liability limits.
Included in your packet is some information from the League of MN Cities that explains the City
options in regards to this matter. In speaking to Gordy Beulke (Beulke Insurance Agency), I do
not believe this would be in the City's best interest. Mr. Hoeft can also address this issue at the
meeting.
The second issue is whether the City would like to extend workers compensation coverage to the
Council and respective Committees. If the City would like to add this coverage, the coverage
should be added by Ordinance. This item is fully discussed in the enclosed memo from the
League. Depending upon the Council's decision, the appropriate Ordinance would be drafted for
the next meeting.
