June 2, 1999 Hello to everyone from the Centerville visit — The Centerville steering committee is putting together a fun-filled, informative morning for the follow -up visit. The entire community has been invited. We hope you can come — Five committees came out of the Design Team visit last fall, and each of them will be updating the community on what has happened in recent months. The groups are - - -. • Downtown Tasks /Street Scapes/Heritage Museum - The fence in front of the elementary school was taken down shortly after our visit. The community has been visiting other cities to leam about developing a heritage museum. And, Anoka County has agreed to donate some excess road right-of-way in the downtown area. More to come!!! • Parks/Trails/Lakes -- A very active group, using many of the ideas that Augie Wong came up with. • Entrance -- This will be at the east end of the city, near the interstate. • County Road 14 — The Design Team concepts — trying to avoid a new, four -lane, highway from slicing the community in two -- are tied closely to MN/DOT's plans for I -35. Some interesting discussions have been held on this. • Community/Youth Center -- The community has been visiting other cities with new community centers, and thinking about what its needs are. • Church — This group is working on the space problems of both the school and the church. Also, Teresa Brenner will talk about the new commercial construction along County Road 14 (it's at the comer of the entrance to Eagles Pass, one of the newer housing developments). Based on recommendations from the Design Team, the city required the developer to redesign it so that, as Mary Capra described it, it reflects the history of Centerville and it flows.
