Centerville Public Buildings Addition
August 1999
1. There should be a minimum of 15 parking spots for firefighters.
These spots should be maintained at all times.
2. Site Plan- Scheme A: shows the parking for the firefighters in
front of the first apparatus bay door.
3. All three Site Plans reduce the firefighters parking.
4. Site Plan C: creates a situation where firefighters arriving at the
station are using the same driveway as fire trucks leaving.
Presently we arrive in one driveway and the first out trucks
leave via another.
5. The fire department sometimes uses the back parking lot for
training, hose testing, etc. This makes it necessary for a large
enough area to be available to continue these practices.
6. When the City Hall and Fire Station were built in 1992, there
was a very limited amount of money available for this structure.
As a result, items were cut out including square footage and
energy items. The apparatus bay in this fire station is 10 feet
shorter than the other stations within the district. Maybe
another option ought to be considered, turn over the fire station
to the public works and build a new fire station, on a new site
separate from the city building.
7. All of the plans do end up to be a negative for the fire
department operation. Our concern in 1992 was that as the city
grows and there is a combined structure, that areas used by the
fire department would be reduced to make room for other
departments. This is proving to be true.
