Memorandum
To: Honorable Mayor and Council
From: Teresa Bender, Deputy Clerk and Diane Ward, City Clerk
Date: 12/17/99
Subject: Consideration of Changing Telephone Service
Mr. Jerry King of McLeodUSA, a company providing services similar to US West, has provided
the City with a proposal for telephone service. The proposal would save the city approximately $100.00
per month in telephone service. The contract would be for three years. The advantages to switching
providers, along with the cost savings, are:
1. 120 days risk free
If the City is not satisfied with McLeodUSA service and rates, they will pay all costs to
put us back with US West.
2. Stabilized Rates:
Local and domestic long distance rates are capped for the term of the contract.
3. If the City receives a proposal from another communications service that is cheaper for
the same service McLeodUSA will match the cost or release the City from the agreement
with no penalty.
4. Account management performed in Roseville.
5. One month free service.
Attached you will find some of McLeodUSA's current customers. Diane has contacted the City
of Stillwater and they are very pleased with the rates and service that McLeod has provided.
