City of Centerville <br /> Animal Ordinance #24 - Updated 10/27/99 <br /> shelter from the weather, and veterinary care when needed to prevent suffering of any sick or <br /> injured animal. No person shall beat, torment, tease, or otherwise abuse an animal, or permit an <br /> animal fight. Any person not treating their pet in such humane manner will be subject to the <br /> penalties provided in this Ordinance. <br /> 24.11 Domestic Animal Shelters. A person in charge or control of any domestic anneal which <br /> is kept outdoors or in an unheated enclosure shall provide the domestic animal with shelter and <br /> bedding as prescribed in this Section as a minimum. <br /> (1) The shelter shall include a moisture proof and wind proof structure of suitable <br /> size to accommodate the domestic animal and allow retention of the body heat. <br /> (2) Shade from the direct rays of the sun, during the months of June to September <br /> shall be provided. <br /> (3) A domestic animal kept on a farm may be provided with access to a barn with <br /> sufficient quantity of loose hay or bedding to protect against cold and dampness. <br /> (4) All shelters required by this Section shall be subject to all building or zoning <br /> regulations of the city, township. county or state. <br /> 24.12 Guard Dog Warning Signs. <br /> A person maintaining a dog for security purposes within the City shall post a sign at all entrances <br /> to the property. Said sign shall be a minimum of 6" x 12 ", with letters of contrasting color, a <br /> minimum of 2" in height, and a brush stroke of minimum, with the following words affixed to <br /> such sign, "DANGER - GUARD DOG ". <br /> 24.13 Abandoned Animals. <br /> Upon written notice of the Chief of Police that private property is attracting or providing shelter <br /> to animals that are not owned or cared for by any known person, the owner of such property shall <br /> be responsible for removing such animals in a humane manner within thirty (30) days of such a <br /> written notice. <br /> 24.14 Animals Presenting a Danger to Health and Safety of City. If, in the reasonable <br /> belief of a police officer, an animal presents an immediate danger to the health <br /> and safety of any person, or the animal is threatening imminent harm to any person, or the <br /> animal is in the process of attacking any person. the officer may destroy the animal in a <br /> proper and humane manner. Otherwise the officer may apprehend the animal and deliver it to the <br /> pound for confinement. If the animal is destroyed, a charge to dispose of the animal is payable by <br /> the owner of the animal. If the animal is found not to be a danger to the health and safety of the <br /> City, it may be released to the owner or keeper in accordance with the provisions of this <br /> Page 11 of 16 <br />
