Motion by Mr. Navin to recommend Ms. Karla DeVine to fill the vacancy on the Park and
Recreation Committee to the City Council Motion seconded by Mr. Porter. All in favor.
Motion carried.
Update on St. Paul Water Utility Appraisal
Mr. Bob Tschida from the St. Paul Water Utility called Mr. March earlier this week and informed
him that the St. Paul Water Utility has decided to wait to sell the property until the lease expires
on the home in two years. The Park and Recreation Committee can pursue this option more at a
later date.
Update on Anoka County LaMotte Trail Grant
Mr. March received a letter from the DNR that announced that the City was awarded a
Cooperative Trail Linkage Grant in the amount of $7,900 for LaMotte Park. This grant will pay
for 5O% of the cost of linking our park trails in LaMotte Park to the trail system in the regional
park. Mr. March has discussed this issue with Mr. John Vondelinde (Anoka County Park
Director). It would be beneficial for the City to have the park trail constructed at the same time
as the County paves their trail system. Mr. March will coordinate this issue with the County if the
Park and Recreation Committee and the City Council authorize the acceptance of the grant.
Motion by Mr. Porter to recommend to Council the acceptance of the Cooperative Trail
Linkage Grant in the amount of $7,900 for LaMotte Park. Motion seconded by Mr.
Larson. All in favor. Motion carried.
Working Concept of Acorn Creek Park
Mr. Porter gave a brief overview of the meetings held with CNN, himself and Mr. Larson.
The CNN and Park and Recreation liaisons, have elected to go with the vendor GameTime. They
are looking at a tenative installation date of October 23, 1999. Mr. Navin questioned if there was
any money left over for landscaping or trees. Ms. Fairbrother stated the grant basically covers the
playground, and that there isn't any money left over for trees and landscaping. Ms. Fairbrother
mentioned that there is a tree grant that could be applied for next year.
Mr. Porter felt a public meeting to discuss the concept and future ideas for other areas of the park
should be the next step. As more money becomes available, the City could expand or add to this
Y tY xP
park. Mr. Navin felt trees and landscaping are very important; however, energy should be
focused on gaining volunteers by both the Park and Recreation and CNN to ensure the October
23, 1999 installation date. The consensus was to wait until we get the check or hear back from
the DNR before we specifically set a date.
Update on swing repair at Tracie McBride Park
Mr. Westerlund (Public Works) had an engineer out to inspect Royal Meadows Park back in
June, who also inspected the swings at the Tracie McBride Park. This inspector informed Mr.
Westerlund that the swing in question is not an infant swing, but a toddler swing. It is
Page 2 of 4
