September 22, 2000
Father Tom Fitzgerald
St. Genevieve's Catholic Church
7087 Goif on Road
Centerville, MN 55038
Dear Father Fitzgerald:
The City of Centerville is currently examining downtown redevelopment and the need for
additional park property and community space within the City. We understand that the
Church of St. Genevieve is also involved in looking at the long -term needs of the parish.
Whether St. Genevieve's expands within the community, does nothing or combines with
another parish has community wide ramifications.
The City of Centerville would like to discuss available options with the church. We
would like to discuss the future of the old public works location, the potential
redevelopment of that entire block, feasibility of vacating the roadways near the church,
downtown redevelopment and the future of the agricultural property located north of
LaMotte Park.
The City currently does not have any plans focused on any of these items, but we would
like to examine the potential of these possibilities as we explore all of our available
options. We understand that many of the decisions would not be decided solely at the
local level and that the archdiocese would be involved in your planning efforts. Would it
be possible to have a joint meeting with the Centerville City Council and the Pastoral
Council/Administrative Council or whom you would deem appropriate to further discuss
some of these issues? We would be willing to host the meeting at City Hall. We look
forward to your response on this very important issue.
On behalf of the City Council,
Jim March
City Administrator
cc. John Alberg Tim McElroy
Cheryl Elfstrom Jim McGeary
Tom Fairbrother Neil Reisdorfer
Andrew Melcher Ray Siebenaler
Gene Noll Mike Thibault
Sharon Smith
John Berg
Yvonne Henrich
Diane Kieffer
