June 21st 2000
Dear Sir,
•
As a new resident of Centerville and Anoka County, I am very happy with the
way the new construction and neighborhoods are being laid out.Being a fairly
new paraplegic Christmas Eve 1998. I found out I had out grown my residence
in South St. Paul when I was injured at my work place. So we my wife
RoxAnn and myself looked for a place to build a new home. In all reality
RoxAnn and some very good friends of ours found a realtor and a builder who
was willing to build a handicap acceable house.Finding the realtor was
relatively easy. They RoxAnn and friends and family found a builder who had
never built a handicap accessible house but was willing to work with us to
build us our home. A lot of research was done by every one involved and we
came to have a new handicap accessible home. I call it the house that RoxAnn
built. 6965 Meadow Court is our new address.
All the time the house was being built, I was in Courage Center learning to
live and deal with being a paraplegic. Every thing in our new house is
handicap accessible roll under stove top roll under sinks in both the kitchen
and the master bath room, roll in shower, lowered the washer into the floor six
inches so I can do the laundry. The garage floor is slanted so have no ramps to
negotiate the front walk is also slanted, the only ramps I have in the house are
little ramps to go in and out of the outside doors. We even bought a new Ford
E -150 Conversion van and had it modified with a ramp and hand controls so I
can drive it and be more independent. But the one thing I can not do is get into
the street at the end of my drive -way so I can't pick up the mail or go for a
walk with out getting help to get in or out of my driveway. The dip at the end
of the driveway is to deep for me to negotiate. I am asking the city of
Centerville to make my driveway accessible or make a accessible ramp next to
my driveway. I had the city engineer come out and look at the problem with
my driveway, he took pictures of the area. I am planning to come the city
council meeting next week and ask for help with my problem.
Sincerely,
Michael J. Zwicki
6965 Meadow Court
Centerville
(651)407 -3736
