r > `
Park and Recreation Committee
November 10, 1987 Meeting Minutes
Present: Carol Pelton Gerald LeTendre Leon L'Allier,
Cindy Paschke Steve Appel Council Liaison
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.
After reviewing the minutes, LeTendre made a motion to accept the
October 13th minutes, Appel second, unanimously accepted. The
City Council minutes were reviewed with some discussion on the
items listed below:
- Centerville Heights ( last paragraph on page 2, and page 3 )
- City Sweeper ( last paragraph on page 4, and first paragraph on
page 5 ) P & R was notified that the City Workers will be fixing
the sweeper instead of sending it away.
- Summer Program ( second paragraph on page 5 ) P & R requests that
the City pay for the Summer Recreation Program for 1987, and P & R
will pick it up for 1988.
P & R requests that they receive the P & Z minutes, even if nothing
in the minutes pertains to them.
Steve Appel, treasurer, gave a financial report, noting that up to
this meeting, the maintenance of the parks is taking clot more money
than was budgeted for. Next year, $750 is budgeted for general
maintenance.
After some discussion on the hockey rink, P & R decided that they
would be willing to pay a fireman for one hour to open up the controls,
so the Hockey Association could flood the rink. P & R is hoping
to use volunteers to supervise the warming house on weekends, and
pay rink attendants to supervise the warming house on weeknights.
A notice asking for volunteers will be sent out with the city newsletter,
cable, and the newspaper. P & R will be increasing the rink
attendant's salaries 10¢ for those returning from last year. P & R
requests the City Clerk to have the satellite delivered on December
15. An alternative to paying a fireman to open up the controls to
flood the rink is for the Hockey Association to put up a bond. P & R
will be investigating this alternative further.
P & R questions what the Summer Recreation Program is. The Recreation
Director Fund which they have budgeted for, will introduce people
to our parks by utilizing our actual park properties in the program.
P & R feels they cannot afford both, and they ask the City Council
to reconsider.
P & R recommends to the City Council that a letter be sent to the
School District requesting the net posts and inner fences from the
tennis courts for future use. P & R could employ the City Workers
to recover the materials. P & R requests a response from the School
District.
Steve Appel made a motion to recommend to the City Council that
Steve Dixon, 1760 Center St., be appointed to the P & R Committee,
LeTendre second, unanimously accepted.
