Mari Nelson
From: >KOkan @csom.umn.eduee [KOkan @csom.umn.edu]
Sent: Tuesday, August 22, 2000 9:49 AM
To: Mari Nelson
Cc: Doug Porter; arathke @mercury.forestry.umn.edu
Subject: Re: Eagle Park
Tell me about all of the people on vacation. When speaking in the Carlson
School of Management one has to be cognizant of the echo!
A couple of comments. Both of the new sites (3 and 4) are within 10 feet
of a main road, not the path. With regards to the other points brought up
by Ms. DeVine, the Committee was mulling over the issue of putting up a
fence in July, but dropped the issue in early August. We were repeatedly
told that the city would only cement and secure the satellite if it were
tipped over by vandals. This comes directly from the city council liaison,
sorry but 1 don't recall his name.
The current location is not suitable to putting up a fence because of
surrounding trees the satellite installation. The most appropriate site
is no. 3. It is within the maintenance parameters, it would be easily
accessible, can be screened properly would not be intrusive by site or
smell to any of the neighboringresidents— Another issue that we haven't
really touched upon is the point of putting this right up to our property
line. If I were to build such a structure right against my neighbors
property line I would guess that I would be in violation of some city
ruling. Again, we feel the current location is a short-term solution to a
long -term problem.
I am not angry about the committee selection, I just question that in this
day and age there are a number of factors competing for our time and energy
.... _., . _. _ . uemeaning process to volunteer. Seems
to me this process diminishes the spirit of volunteering, nurtures a
feeling of contempt and in the end turns away those that could contribute
the most to the cities endeavors
Thanks again for following up on this issue we greatly appreciate your
assistance.
Keith Okan
Departments of Accounting & Finance
Carlson School of Management
University of Minnesota
612.626.0037
"Mari Nelson"
<sbi @mninter.
