rugC L
* The Outdoor Recreation Grant for LaMotte Park will be resubmitted to the DNR next
week. The DNR is not expecting to have any funds available for this program this year, but
it is important to submit the grant to help them show the legislature that there is a need for
funding for municipal park projects.
* The Spring Lake Park Lion's have filed an application for permission to conduct
charitable gambling at Kelly's Korner. They plan to operate pull -tabs, meat raffles, a large
paddle wheel and various large item raffles. City ordinance requires that 50% of the profits
from these operations must directly benefit the residents of Centerville. Last year this
organization donated over $470,000 towards charitable projects. They currently operate
gambling in four other sites. I spoke to the Spring Lake Park City Administrator in regards
to how this club has operated in the City of Spring Lake Park. She said that the club's
charitable gambling proceeds have been used for new playground equipment, trails,
shelters and other park projects. The Centerville Lion's hope to partner with the Spring
Lake Park Lion's in identifying worthy park projects to be completed with the use of
gambling proceeds.
* Enjoy your weekend!
3/24/00
