MEMO
Date: June 1, 2000
To: Chairperson Michael Navin
Park and Recreation Committee
From: Jill Lien
Re: Dedication of Laurie LaMotte Park
I'm sure all of you are aware that the "Dedication of Laurie LaMotte Park" didn't
happen the week of May 22n as anticipated. After polling several of the Park and
Recreation Committee members, staff members and residents, I came to the
conclusion that a dedication of LaMotte Park would be premature. Most often I
heard, "Didn't we already dedicate this park ?" I had already sent out letters to the
following businesses requesting donations for the event:
Wise Guys Pizza - Ken Vanderbeek
Kelly's Korner - Bill Bisek
Sager's Liquor - Terry Sager
Jumpin Java - Monica Travis
Centerville Lions Club - Dave Lutz
Cub Foods (Bakery) - Kan Klassen
Fire Department - Brian Colvard
RE/MAX Realty - Ray DeVine
Included are copies of the request letters that were sent to the area businesses and
Cub Foods for your review. As of today, I havn't received one phone call or
response from any of the above, with the exception of Cub Foods. I had already
called them before sending out the request letter to discuss the donation with them.
They were willing to donate a cake for the event.
At this point, I think it would be best to hold the dedication in the future, when the
park is completely done. Once the playground equipment, concession stand,
parking lot, turf, ball fields, lights, fences, trails, etc., are all complete, we should
then consider having a "grand opening" or something of the sort.
Thank You!
