The resignation is effective
1/1/2000. The City of Stillwater has interviewed to fill her position twice and has not found
a suitable candidate. They have made Diane an offer to come back to work for them that
she cannot refuse. This is bad news for Centerville, but we wish Diane continued success.
Diane indicated that her decision was not based solely on dollars, but rather the City of
Stillwater's commitment to further train her in computers and GIS (her passion) and offer
the availability of advancement in the Engineering department. I plan to advertise the
position vacancy as soon as possible.
* The levy has been certified to Anoka County.
* I met with Rick Carlson this morning to discuss the redevelopment of the public works
site. Rick would like to submit a proposal for townhomes on the site. I have continued to
offer suggestions for a mixed use building similar to the design team sketches. I think
developers may be leery of commercial uses when LaMotte's Store, Carpenter building and
House of Chu have available commercial space for lease. Unfortunately, the perceived
lack of parking and unappealing streetscape detract from the marketability of those rental
properties. Hopefully, this will change in the future.
* I spoke to Bill LaLonde about the potential water extension and streetscape
enhancements along Centerville Road. I had thought that he would be one of the vocal
residents opposed to the proposal. Mr. LaLonde is highly in favor of having water extended
to his property and explained that he has wanted water for several years and the City would
not extend water to his property as part of the elementary school watermain extension
project.
* I spoke to Gerald Rehbein and he indicated that Bradley Real Estate had contacted
Integrated Real Estate to try and acquire an option on Gerald's property south of the Willow
Glen townhomes. Gerald did not know if he wanted to allow someone to tie up his property
with an option at this time. Bradley Real Estate is the company that specializes strictly in
the development of shopping centers.
12/29/99
