Mr. Silvemess stressed that the YMCA is not looking for financial support, in <br /> fact, the YMCA anticipates loosing money with the extended hours being offered, but felt <br /> they could make it up in other areas. There will be some benefits to the residents of <br /> Centerville such as: a 25% discount in "joiners" fee, 10% off monthly dues, a teen <br /> center, the ability to re- evaluate after five (5) years, and the fact that the YMCA would <br /> like Centerville to be an active part in the planning and success of the business. The <br /> YMCA has conducted a market study, which indicates there would be approximately <br /> 2,500 memberships in this area, consisting of approximately 8,000 to 12,000 people. Mr. <br /> Silverness anticipated 25% of Centerville's residents joining, adding there will be heavy <br /> family response. A teen center will be available in approximately two (2) years, with <br /> teen programming playing a huge part in the development. The YMCA wants to work <br /> closely with Centerville for anything relating to teens or future teen centers. Mr. <br /> Silverness mentioned the YMCA would keep close ties with the Centennial Middle <br /> School. A shuttle service from the Middle School directly to the YMCA will be available <br /> this year. The closest facility of this size would be in Woodbury. Mr. Silvemess <br /> appealed to the Park and Recreation Committee to recommend supporting the YMCA to <br /> the City Council. Specifically, the YMCA is requesting the following: "1.) To offer a <br /> summer Day Camp Program extended hours site and bus pick -up location, using LaMotte <br /> Park, and 2.) To offer morning and afternoon sessions, each day for approximately eight <br /> (8) weeks during this summer, between 9:30 — 11:30 a.m., and 1:00 — 3:00 p.m., Monday <br /> — Friday." <br /> Motion by Mr. Navin, seconded by Mr. LeBlanc to recommend to City Council to <br /> permit the YMCA's request to offer extended hours site and bus pick -up location at <br /> Laurie LaMotte Park. All in favor. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> Bike Track <br /> Kevin Smith (7310 Old Mill Road), Danny and Bobby Lofgren (7256 Centerville Road) <br /> and Lance Dahl (1748 Peltier Lake Drive) appeared before the Park and Recreation <br /> Committee to request the committee consider establishing a bike track for the kids in <br /> Centerville that are of their age bracket (12 -16). Mr. Smith stated that there are four (4) <br /> new parks in the City for all of the little kids, but nothing for the kids their age. They <br /> would like to see a bike track created for kids to ride their bikes on; at least it would give <br /> them something to do. <br /> Ms. DeVine mentioned that there were approximately 20 kids biking and jumping their <br /> bikes on the Travis property yesterday. Ms. Travis explained to the kids that they cannot <br /> jump their bikes on that piece of property because they are in the process of selling it, but <br /> they continue to use it as a bike track.
