Parks and Trails <br /> City of Centerville <br /> 2030 Comprehensive Plan <br /> PARKS AND TRAILS <br /> Local Parks <br /> The City adopted a Park and Pedestrian System Comprehensive Plan in 1989, which <br /> provides goals, a needs assessment, concept plans and operations and maintenance <br /> information related to the local park and trail system. That document and this Plan are <br /> intended to serve as a basis for decisions regarding future implementation of the City <br /> park system. <br /> The plan elements reflected in the Park and Trails Plan are based on goals and polices <br /> developed during the Comprehensive Plan update process. It is the goal of the City of <br /> Centerville to: <br /> • Provide convenient active and passive recreation opportunities that serve all the <br /> residents of Centerville. <br /> • Build new and upgrade existing park properties and trials with ecologically sound <br /> and sustainable materials, where possible. <br /> • Establish a biking/hiking trail system connecting city parks and residential <br /> neighborhoods. <br /> • Provide adequate expansion of parks and recreation areas in proposed <br /> residential developments. <br /> • Provide safe and convenient bicycle and pedestrian access to community <br /> recreation facilities. <br /> • Expand and preserve parks and recreation opportunities on the shores of <br /> Centerville and Peltier Lakes with appropriate sustainable practices in mind. <br /> • Promote or provide recreational facilities and programs to serve the varied <br /> recreational needs of all age groups in the City. <br /> Policies reflect the position of the City on the specific implementation of the Goals. It is <br /> the policy of the City of Centerville to: <br /> • Develop a trail access plan which provide interconnection of major parks, <br /> recreation areas, schools, commercial nodes, Central Business District and <br /> community neighborhoods and implement the plan as funding opportunities <br /> allow. <br /> • Design and maintain parks with proper lighting, shelter and landscaping to <br /> ensure public and property safety, with sustainable practices which protect <br /> environmental resources for future generations. <br /> • Develop land use regulations compatible with adjacent parks, recreation areas <br /> and natural features. <br /> • Require dedication of net developable parkland or cash in lieu of land in <br /> conjunction with the subdivision or re- development of all properties. <br /> 69 <br />
