IF Vs
TO: Parks & Recreation Committee
FROM: Kim Stephan
DATE: February 25, 2010
SUBJECT: Accelerator Play Equipment Recall
Mr. Tedd Peterson, Public Works brought the attached picture of Accelerator Play Equipment to my
attention and requested I contact Mr. Harlan Lehman, Minnesota Wisconsin Playground, Inc., the
salesperson for the equipment we purchased for the Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park play structure. I
emailed the following and Mr. Lehman responded with a request to set up a time for a walk through of the
park with Staff.
At the bottom of this email is correspondence from our Public Works Director from last March regarding a
recall and a replacement we had at one of our parks on equipment we purchased through your company.
Also attached is the same piece of equipment being offered through Earl F. Andersen. Our question is why is
this still being offered if it was recalled? We are not happy with the piece of equipment as it is because it
was altered from something the children used and enjoyed to something that is not what we ordered or
intended for that playground, it is now basically a pole. We were not compensated for the change and feel
the quality is less than we purchased. Any ideas would be appreciated
Sent: Tuesday, March 24, 2009
To: Harlan @tnnwiplay.com
The Parks & Recreation Committee is requesting more detailed information on the recall of the accelerator
play equipment that was installed at Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park in 2007. It appears that the
manufacturer will be replacing the swirling part of the play equipment with a mono pole. Will the
manufacturer reimburse the city for the cost of the play piece? It appears the original moving piece was not
designed properly and hence is being eliminated making that portion of the play structure unusable as
intended, advertised and sold Please let me know prior to the work commencing at the park Paul Palzer,
Public Works Director
SUBJECT: Pedestrian Crossing Main Street at Peltier Lake Drive and Lakeland Circle
From the Parks & Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes of February 3, 2010:
Committee Member Seeley asked whether the City had ever heard anything from Anoka Country regarding
the safety issues with bikers and pedestrians crossing Main Street at Peltier Lake Drive and Lakeland Circle.
The City Administrator had sent a letter to Mr. Doug Fischer, County Engineer requesting it be looked at.
Ms. Stephan will check with Mr. Larson and report back to the committee.
Mr. Dallas Larson's response: Doug Fischer indicated on the phone when I talked to him that they were
still looking into it, but that he didn't see any way they could put a crossing in there, especially since there
were no trails or sidewalks in either location. I will contact him again and ask for a written answer.
