visions of each community relating to the trail system Mr. LeBlanc will be coordinating
this meeting to be held sometime in July or August, at City Hall.
Letter to Residents in Eagle Pass reardingLih`g of Trail
Previously discussed and disregarded.
Concrete in Ice Rink at Laurie LaMotte Park
Discussion was held regarding the fees involved with such a large project. The general
consensus of the Parks and Recreation Committee was, although it would be nice for
flooding purposes, it would be best to table this item for the future.
NEW BUSINESS
Laurie LaMotte Park (Outfield Fences and Bleachers)
Ms. Lien explained that Bill Bisek (Kelly's Korner) requested this be placed on the
agenda. Mr. Bisek would like the Park and Recreation Committee to install outfield
fences and bleachers at Laurie LaMotte Park. With the upcoming Fete des Lacs ball
tournaments, in order for it to be sanctioned, it has to be within regulation — which
requires outfield fences. If there are no outfield fences, there will not be a tournament.
Ms. DeVine suggested that perhaps Mr. Bisek would be willing to donate the funds for
the outfield fences, since he was willing to donate the fiznds for another ball field at one !
time. After discussing the issue, the Parks and Recreation Committee decided to propose
the idea to Mr. Bisek. Mr. Sweeney requested staff copy any quotes received by Mr.
Palzer to him, and he will present the idea to Mr. Bisek. I
Recommendation by the Parks and Recreation Committee to accept a donation by I '
Mr. Bisek, to fund installation of outfield fences at all of the fields at Laurie
LaMotte Park, subject to Mr. Sweeney's discussions with Mr. Bisek.
Mr. Navin felt the soccer and softball clubs should provide the bleachers. He will discuss
the issue with Pat Mahr of the Little League and Dave Knol of the Centennial Soccer
Club.
Skate Park / BMX Track
Ms. Lien elained she had previously been directed by the Parks and Recreation
Committee to contact Shoreview's Community Center to find out information about their
bike track. In her discussions with Sandy Wagner (Community Center Director), Ms.
Lien learned that Shoreview doesn't offer a BMX bike track, but rather a skate park.
They will be adding a bike track sometime this year, but as of this date, there is just a
skate park. Ms. Lien was given a lot of good information, contacts, and other cities to
call that have skate parks. After polling several communities and their respective police
departments on the pros and cons of their skate parks, Ms. Lien shared that all of the
communities polled strongly recommended skate parks. Ms. Lien submitted information
relating to each City polled and information from True Ride — Skate Park Design and
6
