LOCAL TRAIL CONNECTIONS CRANT PROGRAM <br /> Information Sheet <br /> 2001 <br /> Deadlines/ A�plications must be received no later than February 28, 2001, Pending the availability <br /> Important Dates: of funds, reimbursement grant awards will be announced in July 2001. <br /> Program Purpose: The emphasis of this program is to promote access between people and <br /> desirable destinations, not to develop significant new recreation facilities. Its <br /> primary purpose is to complete trail connections between where people live (e.g., <br /> residentiat areas within cities, and communities) and significant public recreation <br /> facilities (e.g., parks and other trails). Priority will be given to residential connections to <br /> state and regiona! facilities. A secondary purpose is to link existing trail segments. <br /> How it works: Provides reimbursement grants to local units of govemment for trail projects or seroes <br /> • as a partial local "match" for a TEA-21 Enhancement Project. <br /> Eligible Cities, counties, and townships. <br /> Applicants: <br /> Local Support: Local/area support must be demonstrated. <br /> Minimum Project must result in a trail linkage that is immediately available for use by the general <br /> Requirements: public. There must be demonstrated compatibitity of tf�e uses provided by the project j <br /> proposal with uses provided by the recreation facility. <br /> Eligible Projects: Land acquisition and trail development. However, acquisition of trail right-of-way will I <br /> only be eligible when it is proposed in conjunction with trail development. Lands <br /> purchased with this fund witl require a"perpetual easement for recreational traii <br /> purposes," and trails developed with this fund wilt require a twenty-year maintenance <br /> commitment by the project sponsor. Projecis inside state park boundaries and state <br /> trail corridors and elements of the Regional Open Space System in the Twin Cities I <br /> Metro System are ineligible. ' <br /> Reimbursement A maximum of 50 percent of the total eligible project costs. <br /> Grant Amount: Minimum-$5,000. Maximum-$50,000. <br /> I <br /> Local Match: Fifty percent "cash match° for eligible elements of the project proposal. Neither this <br /> funding source nor the "cash match" can be used for labor services and/or to meet I <br /> existing payroll (i.e., only contract senrices, materials, and supplies are reimbursable). <br /> Match must not be other state funds, Metropolitan Council Grants, or Nationat <br /> Recreational Trail Program (formerly Symms). ' <br /> Project Period: In most cases funding is only available through June 30, 2003. At that time, the project <br /> must be completely developed and all billings submitted to the DNR. In certain cases, <br /> this period may be extended for projects receiving TEA-21 Enhancement funding. <br /> Disbursement of Grants are reimbursable.
