Public boat accesses - a cooperative acquisition and development program <br /> • Contact the Trails and Waterways area supervisor for more information. <br /> 2. Fishing pier and shore fishing program - Applications submitted by June <br /> 1st are reviewed on site, ranked, and the highest priorities are selected for <br /> installation for the following summer. <br /> Program Purpose: These programs provide financial and technical assistance to local govemments <br /> to improve water recreation facilities including; public boat accesses, fishing piers, , <br /> shore fishing, rivers recreation amenities. <br /> How it works: The DNR works with local units of govemments and provides technical and <br /> financial assistance to improve water recreation opportunities. Typically the local <br /> unit of govemment owns the property and the DNR cooperates in the development. <br /> Eligible applicants: Counties, cities, and townships. , <br /> Eligible Projects: Projects that improve access to public water. It includes acquisition, development <br /> and rehabititation of water recreation faciiities. Projects involve site design to <br /> improve parking, boat ramps, landscape restoration, docks, and accessibility for <br /> people with disabilities. Shore fishing projects include pier installation and/or <br /> shoreline improvements. I <br /> Priorities: Projects are seiected based on criteria which inciude but are not limited to the I <br /> following: public demand, locations, present availability of facilities, game fish <br /> present, size of water body, accessibility, and sponsor donation. I <br /> Grant amount: Grant amounts vary for access development and shore fishing projects. Fishing <br /> piers are up to $20,000 per project depending on the size of the pier determined <br /> to be appropriate for the water body. . <br /> local Match: Match amounts for accesses are negotiable based on present availability <br /> and need in the area. The level of financial assistance fluctuates considerably <br /> depending on the project scope, sponsor's need and the program's available <br /> budget.
