Downtown Storm Water
City Administrator Larson reviewed the background information on the Centerville
Downtown Redevelopment Strom Water Reclamation Project. He presented updated
grant information stating that the Clean Water Legacy Grant would fund $188,550 of the
downsized project and that Staff hasn't gotten a commitment from the Rice Creek
Watershed District at this time. He stated that he feels this is a much more manageable
project and that Staff could look for additional grant money down the road.
City Engineer Statz explained that essentially the City Council has the following three (3)
choices: 1) to reconsider the original project costing approximately $800,000 with the
$249,000 grant, 2) consider this downsized approximate $400,000 project with the
$188,000 grant 3) the City could choose to not do either project. The City Engineer also
explained that the downsized project aides in the each of the following: cleaner water to
the lake which is eventually going to be mandated as a City obligation, irrigation for the
park, and finally, the project would be setting up for the downtown redevelopment.
The Council discussed the choices noted by the City Engineer and their concerns. The
consensus of the Council was that the benefits to the community, ball fields, and lakes are
worth the amount of the expenditure. City Council requested that Staff review ways to
replenish the Storm Water Fund as well as have the Finance Director review all aspects
of the project and to use any funds available that the City has on hand.
Motion by Council Member Broussard Vickers, seconded by Council Member
Paar to direct Staff to work with Rice Creek Watershed District and the State to
modify the grant agreements to fix the cost on the lower cost proiect and direct the
Finance Director to review proiect costs. All in favor. Motion carried unanimouslv.
VIII. NEW BUSINESS
1.
